Buck --
Early this morning, the Senate made history and health reform cleared its most important hurdle yet -- garnering the 60 votes needed to move toward a final vote in that chamber later this week.
That WOULD be an important hurdle were we discussing health care reform and not your Insurance Industry bailout bill.
This marks the first time in our nation's history that comprehensive health reform has come to this point.
You kidding me? There is nothing "comprehensive" about this bill, and for you to use the word "reform" in any proximity to it is downright criminal. Shame on you.
And it appears that the American people will soon realize the genuine reform that offers security to those who have health insurance and affordable options to those who do not.
Bullshit. This bill does not offer affordable options. It does not offer any cost-controlling measures to keep premiums from skyrocketing. It offers a mandate that forces every American citizen to buy insurance from the vampires in the health insurance industry, and outlines how the IRS will levy fines of up to $750 on Americans who do not. And soon?!? Even if it DID help, it doesn't kick in for years. So "soon" is a bit of a stretch, pal.
I'm grateful to Senator Harry Reid and every senator who's been working around the clock to make this happen. And I'm grateful to you, and every member of this community, for all the work you have done to make this progress possible.
Don't drag my name into this. Sure, I worked my ass off and spent myself poor campaigning for you, but I didn't sign up for this shit.
After a nearly century-long struggle, we are now on the cusp of making health insurance reform a reality in the United States of America.
There you go again. Reform my ass. You are a liar.
As with any legislation, compromise is part of the process. But I'm pleased that recently added provisions have made this landmark bill even stronger.
Don't lecture me. I know that compromise is part of the process. But you DO NOT compromise the core principles away and you sure as shit do not go around calling this shit sandwich "reform" when you've already done just that. Stronger? I guess if by "stronger" you mean "better for the insurance companies' stock prices", yeah.
Between the time when the bill passes and the time when the insurance exchanges get up and running, insurance companies that try to jack up their rates do so at their own peril. Those who hike their prices may be barred from selling plans on the exchanges.
At their own peril? They're free to do it. Your bullshit "reform" bill sure as shit doesn't prevent it.
And while insurance companies will be prevented from denying coverage on the basis of pre-existing conditions once the exchanges are open,
Wait, stop. What? See, you claim that they are prevented from denying coverage based on pre-existing conditions, but they are simply not. Sure, they have to offer you a policy if you are one of the millions with a pre-existing condition, but what you conveniently leave out is the fact that insurance companies are free to charge you up to 300 times more if you have a pre-existing condition. So while it's nice that those with pre-existing conditions may be offered a policy, do you really believe that they can afford the policy at a cost of 300x what everyone else is paying? That, my former friend, is a de facto denial based on a pre-existing condition.
Finally, this reform will extend coverage to more than 30 million Americans who don't have it.
Is that what you call it when someone is forced to buy something? We're "extending coverage" to them?
These are not small changes. These are big changes. They're fundamental reforms. They will save money. They will save lives.\
I beg to differ. These are small changes. The Senate health care bill is a bailout for the insurance industry, as evidenced by their having today reached a 52 year high. And please, for fuck's sake, please stop calling your garbage bill "reform". It won't save a single life.
And your passion, your work, your organizing helped make all of this possible. Now it's time to finish the job.
Again, don't bring my name into this you fucking sellout. I didn't organize to bail out the insurance industry. That's on you. As far as you and me go, we're done. I've shredded my DNC card, and I promise you that I will not be fooled again. No more money, no more volunteering, no more nothing. The Democrats are just as bad as the Republicans.
Thank you,
-Fuck you,
President Barack Obama
